Fort La Latte, a Listed Historical Monument
Just one aerial view or a glimpse from Cap Fréhel is enough to understand why it fascinates so many visitors. Built in the 14th century on a rocky headland overlooking the English Channel, the Château de la Roche Goyon (often referred to as Fort La Latte) is a fortress that will transport you to the Middle Ages. This magnificent structure stands out due to its location, architecture, and the stone used—red sandstone typical of the region, which is also found in many churches and houses in the Côtes-d'Armor. Designed by Siméon Garengeau, Fort La Latte was a defensive fortress that once belonged to the great lords of Brittany. Now open to the public and listed as a historical monument, it delights history and architecture enthusiasts, who can learn about its entire history during a guided tour. Abandoned in the 19th century, the castle was listed as a historical monument in 1925 and then restored starting in 1931 by the Joüon des Longrais family, who saved it and opened it to the public. It has since become the most visited castle in Brittany, after Anne de Bretagne's castle in Nantes. Discover more about Fort la Latte.
